Arduino Stackable Header Kit - R3

These headers are made to work with the Arduino Uno R3, Leonardo and new Arduino boards going forward. They are the perfect height for clearing the USB-B connector and great for stacking multiple shields. This kit includes 4 headers (2 8-pin, 1 10-pin and 1 6-pin), enough to connect a shield to an Arduino board. These are the same headers we use in our tutorials and with our own shields.

Arduino Uno - R3 (Genuine)

This is the new Arduino Uno R3. In addition to all the features of the previous board, the Uno now uses an ATmega16U2 instead of the 8U2 found on the Uno (or the FTDI found on previous generations). This allows for faster transfer rates and more memory. No drivers needed for Linux or Mac (inf file for Windows is needed and included in the Arduino IDE), and the ability to have the Uno show up as a keyboard, mouse, joystick, etc. 

The Uno R3 also adds SDA and SCL pins next to the AREF. In addition, there are two new pins placed near the RESET pin. One is the IOREF that allow the shields to adapt to the voltage provided from the board. The other is a not connected and is reserved for future purposes. The Uno R3 works with all existing shields but can adapt to new shields which use these additional pins.

Arduino is an open-source physical computing platform based on a simple i/o board and a development environment that implements the Processing/Wiring language. Arduino can be used to develop stand-alone interactive objects or can be connected to software on your computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP). The open-source IDE can be downloaded for free (currently for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux).

Arduino Uno Complete plastic case

The Arduino Uno is the undisputed champion of all development boards, why would you not want to keep your board safe and sound inside this clear plastic enclosure? These cases protect your Arduino Uno from things like rogue wires that might short it out while still allowing full access to the board! Simply snap the Uno into the bottom half of the enclosure, then snap the two sides together.

As you may have noticed, these enclosures are actually transparent. The enclosures are perfect for letting you see your Arduino Uno and make any needed adjustments easily.

The enclosure provides slots to access each header, USB port, power jack, the reset button,  the AREF and ICSP connectors, as well as feet and vents to ensure the board gets proper cooling and slide-in wall mounting slots. All of the status LEDs on the Uno are visible through the case thanks to light pipes embedded in the design. This is a really durable case that will do a great job protecting your Arduino Uno!

Bare Conductive - Electric Paint (50ml)

Bare Conductive’s Electric Paint is just like any other water-based paint… except that it’s electrically conductive! This means that you can actually paint wires onto things like models, clothes, furniture, walls, almost anything you can think of. Standard acrylic or water-based paints can even be used alongside Electric Paint to act as insulation or to create multi-layer circuitry!

You can apply Bare’s Electric Paint like any other water-based paint. You can use a brush, a roller, printmaking equipment, some intrepid users have even tried to spray the material through an airbrush! It’s important to note that as Electric Paint dries the conductivity increases (and will continue to increase to a certain extent even after the paint “feels” dry), so if your project requires calibration, let the paint dry completely before testing it.

Note: Electric Paint is not meant for use on skin!

Note: Electric Paint is not waterproof, but depending on what your application is you can paint over it with a waterproof paint or varnish. On the bright side this does make for easy cleanup.

Bare Conductive Touch Board + Micro SD card

The Touch Board from Bare Conductive is an easy-to-use Arduino@Heart board that gives you the ability to turn almost any material or surface into a sensor. Each Touch Board offers 12 electrodes for your a conductive ink or other type of connector that can be drawn or attached to create light switches, musical instruments, or custom interactive surfaces all through the Arduino IDE. The Bare Conductive Touch Board is even equipped with an onboard MP3 player making each board capable of turning your favorite song into a MIDI tune. Simply put: if you can do something with an Arduino or Arduino-compatible device, you can do it (and more) with the Touch Board and some conductive ink as well!

The Touch Board has been specifically designed to be a microcontroller board with dedicated capacitive touch and MP3 decoder ICs. Each board has a 3.5mm audio jack and micro SD card holder (for file storage), as well as its own 128MB micro SD card. The Touch Board has been based around the ATmega32U4 and runs at 16MHz from 3-5.5VDC. It has everything you would expect to be on an Arduino-type device including, a micro USB connector, a JST connector for an external lithium polymer (LiPo) cell, a power switch and a reset button. It should be known that there is limit of 32GB to the microSD card sized used with this board.

The Bare Conductive Touch Board is similar to the Arduino Leonardo and can be programmed using the Arduino IDE (1.5.6 or later). To power the Touch board simply attach it to a micro USB connection or from a 3.7V lithium polymer (LiPo) cell connected to the 2-way JST PH series connector. The onboard ATmega32U4 can appear to a connected computer as a mouse or a keyboard, serial port, or USB MIDI device.

Note: The Touch Board does NOT include a micro USB cable or LiPo battery. These items will need to be purchased separately.

BC 547 NPN Transistor

BC547 is a NPN transistor hence the collector and emitter will be left open (Reverse biased) when the base pin is held at ground and will be closed (Forward biased) when a signal is provided to base pin. BC547 has a gain value of 110 to 800, this value determines the amplification capacity of the transistor. The maximum amount of current that could flow through the Collector pin is 100mA, hence we cannot connect loads that consume more than 100mA using this transistor. To bias a transistor we have to supply current to base pin, this current (IB) should be limited to 5mA.

 

When this transistor is fully biased then it can allow a maximum of 100mA to flow across the collector and emitter. This stage is called Saturation Region and the typical voltage allowed across the Collector-Emitter (V­CE) or Base-Emitter (VBE) could be 200 and 900 mV respectively. When base current is removed the transistor becomes fully off, this stage is called as the Cut-off Region and the Base Emitter voltage could be around 660 mV.

 

BC547 as Switch

When a transistor is used as a switch it is operated in the Saturation and Cut-Off Region as explained above. As discussed a transistor will act as an Open switch during Forward Bias and as a Closed switch during Reverse Bias, this biasing can be achieved by supplying the required amount of current to the base pin. As mentioned the biasing current should maximum of 5mA. Anything more than 5mA will kill the Transistor; hence a resistor is always added in series with base pin. The value of this resistor (RB) can be calculated using below formulae.

RB  = VBE / IB

Where, the value of VBE should be 5V for BC547 and the Base current (IB depends on the Collector current (IC). The value of IB should not exceed mA.

BC547 as Amplifier

A Transistors acts as an Amplifier when operating in Active Region. It can amplify power, voltage and current at different configurations.

Some of the configurations used in amplifier circuits are

  1. Common emitter amplifier
  2. Common collector amplifier
  3. Common base amplifier

Of the above types common emitter type is the popular and mostly used configuration. When uses as an Amplifier the DC current gain of the Transistor can be calculated by using the below formulae

DC Current Gain = Collector Current (IC) / Base Current (IB)

The BC337 is an NPN transistor with a maximum gain of 630, commonly used in low power audio applications. It can also switch loads upto 45V and 800mA hence also used as general purpose transistor.

The BC337 is an NPN Transistor commonly used in low power amplifier circuits. The Transistor can provide a maximum gain (hfe) of 630. The BC337 has three part names, the gain value of BC337-16 is 100 to 250, for BC337-25 it is 160 to 400 and for BC337-40 it is 250 to 630. Apart from the gain value other parameters are similar for all the three part numbers.

The transistor also has a high collector current of upto 800mA and a decent collector emitter voltage of 45V and the base trigger voltage is only 5V. This makes the transistor suitable to be used in general purpose switching circuits. Due to its low base trigger voltage it can be easily controlled by digital circuits like microcontroller circuits. So, if you are looking for a transistor for audio amplification then you might consider the BC337. Also look into the more commonly used 2N2222 Transistor if you are looking for a replacement for BC337 to switch loads.
